Haus der Berge

Appearance of a museum

A logo for a unique place

In 2003, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Berchtesgaden National Park, the Bavarian state government decided to establish a new centre for environmental information and education. The result is the present “Haus der Berge”, an information centre on the grounds of the former Hotel Berchtesgadener Hof, located at the heart of the Berchtesgaden community. The Haus der Berge effectively addresses the concerns of its visitors, while also serving as a model of ecologically sound construction in the Alpine region. During the project realisation phase, great value was placed on a sustainable energy concept, barrier-free construction and short distances. The building’s façade was constructed with regional materials, which will weather naturally reflecting the national park’s guiding principle “Let nature be nature”. The museum’s unique location offers a spectacular view of Berchtesgarden and the Watzmann massif.

The idea

By developing the new logo, we lay the foundation of the new visual appearance of the Haus der Berge, taking into account the museum’s unique location. The Watzmann is the regional landmark and plays a major role in the logo design. The silhouette is an unmistakable visual element. There is a successful combination of words and images, which is also realised in different variations and materials in the building’s architecture and façade design.
